EDDY — Early Detection Driven to You — 45' Drivable Lung CT Coach

NY State’s First Mobile Lung Screening Program
Philips CT 5300
Western New York
September 2026

Project Overview

Roswell Park launched EDDY — Early Detection Driven to You — in 2022 as New York State's first mobile lung cancer screening unit, operating from a rented trailer. The program proved the model: thousands of low-dose CT scans delivered into communities across Western New York, cancers caught at early and treatable stages, and partnerships built with groups including the Buffalo Fire Department.

The Vision: With results established, Roswell Park selected USA Mobile Medical to design and build EDDY's permanent home — a custom 45' drivable coach, engineered in partnership with Philips specifically for high-volume, community-based screening. Moving from a rented trailer to a purpose-built drivable coach gave the team the maneuverability to reach neighbourhood sites, employer campuses and rural community lots the original vehicle could not serve.

Specified as a premium build: two additional control-room slide-outs widen the coach by 5–6 ft, supporting five workstations, a patient changing area inside the scan room, an on-board bathroom, a 20' extended awning and a wheelchair lift — a configuration built for sustained, high-throughput screening days rather than occasional deployment.

What Made This Program Possible

01

Proven Before Purpose-Built

Roswell Park ran the program on a rented trailer first, establishing demand and clinical results before committing to a custom build — a lower-risk path other health systems can follow.

02

Philips Low-Dose CT

Equipped with the Philips CT 5300, delivering the image quality lung screening protocols require at the lowest practical radiation dose.

03

Built for Maneuverability

The 45' drivable coach format reaches community sites, employer campuses and tight neighbourhood lots that larger towed trailers cannot access.

04

Engineered with Philips

Designed and built in partnership with Philips, with the coach layout developed around the scanner and the screening workflow rather than retrofitted to it.

A program that started on a rented trailer, proved it worked, and earned a coach built for the job.
